MELISSA McCARTHY MAKES A SLAM DUNK ON SNL

From the first time I saw McCarthy on "Samantha Who?" it was clear she was talented and could dominate a scene. She has proved that since taking on the role of Molly on the CBS hit "Mike & Molly" following that with the runaway comedy film "Bridesmaids" and like the whip topping on a sundae she pushes the limits as host of "SNL".

Alec Baldwin opening the season did little to bring viewers back to the show, McCarthy not only brought in the numbers but will blow up the clicks as those who missed the episode will be searching to get a look at what most saw live. There is no actress in the business today who could have pulled off scenes like dancing with Kristen Wiig, sexually molesting Jason Sudeikis, a Lawrence Welk-ish skit, a Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing taste testing commercial, Mae West-ique physical comedy skit with the ferocious drive that McCarthy brought to the show.

There will be those who will try to bring her down from the pedestal but clearly she has earned her spot on top and she really did it her way. There has not been a woman since Carol Burnett and Lucille Ball who has been willing to put it all on the line like McCarthy did on SNL. Ball and Burnett were known as class acts and Melissa fits right in among those woman. Obviously she has to put in a bit more time to get the complete respect as the woman before her but the road is paved the bridge is built and awaits her crossing.

She fair warned her kids to go to bed because mommy will be doing some inappropriate stuff. That was an understatement as she drove every scene she was in to the brink never allowing the audience to recoup. Hopefully everybody did a bathroom break prior to getting in their seats because the skits were the best in years. LOL (laugh out loud) could be considered by most who witnessed "Saturday Night Live" this week to be an understatement.

Week in and week out hosting SNL is too challenging for most but McCarthy seems to be the rare breed who learns her lines. She rarely if ever even took a peak at the monitor coming fully prepared and ready to demand more of herself as each skit comes to a close. This is the biggest Kudo yet to be delivered from RUSTYSCAGE.COM since our inception in November of 2010 and it is our pleasure to give Melissa all the credit in the world.
