SHIRLEY MacLAINE
I'M OVER ALL THAT
There have been may books by Shirley MacLaine since her first in 1970. I have never had an opportunity to dive into her literary work until now. It was well worth the 40 years of waiting now it is time to play catch up. MacLaine has a mystic way of writing some of her deep thoughts about events that have shaped who she is.
The humor in MacLaine 's titles for each chapter are enough to keep the reader intrigued at every page. There is so much more as she offers insight into who some of the most powerful people in the worlds history really were behind closed doors. The stories never divulge beyond what is necessary for her tale. She does this with peppered humor injecting love and happiness to her life.
The chapters are not long and boring with details that add nothing to the quandary. There are some laugh out loud moments as well as startling perceptions through the eyes of MacLaine. Her story telling initiates in joining some of the most spirited friends she continually surrounds herself with all the time. Most of the things people imagine when they consider Shirley MacLaine are grounded in truth but due to late night television she has been a symbol of ridicule with distorted fables. This has not detoured her from speaking about her life with confidence never being swayed to dilute the authenticity of the real Shirley.
The draw to powerful political leaders for the joy they brought her was just the cherry on the cake because she was looking for deeper understanding of the men in charge. The man behind the myth is not just a saying she takes lightly. MacLaine really does want to know everything about the men and with the length of time she spends with each brings a learning you just can not get in a book or in a classroom.
Being born with the tenacity of individual complexion is the engine that kept MacLaine on the path of cognizance. At the age of 77 she still revels in expanding her life by observing her surroundings and the people that walk in it. She still looks to magnify everyone's life by drawing on their previous lives. Loving the solitude of her home in Sante Fe, New Mexico still hoping to enlighten people she travels doing seminars talking about how to make people better.
When MacLaine and Anne Bancroft had their well known fight scene on the runway in "The Turning Point" this 14 year old could not have been more engrossed in the strength of these two woman. Hopefully there will be enough time for me to catch up on her writing before she completes her next book. If you are looking for a quick read that will leave you relaxed then this is a book for you.
