2 BROKE GIRLS

SEPTEMBER 19, 2011-PRESENT

The commercial push for this show was Over-the-Top but do not let the brief scenes that they chose for the promotion to fool you because this show has girth.  CBS has locked in on what people are looking for in half hour sitcoms with a Monday night line-up that can force the viewers to sit down at 8pm with an empty bladder.  Topping the night off with "Hawaii Five-O" will make it hard for other networks and cable to complete.  The only station that held a candle to pull viewers was Fox's "The Chicago Code", but they foolishly dropped the show from their line-up.  RUSTYSCAGE.COM very rarely will allow another reality show into the family; this includes 2 Broke Girls’ Monday night competition, "The Sing-Off" or "Dancing with the Stars."  The CW's competition is "Gossip Girl" which is not up to the level RUSTYSCAGE.COM holds for our standards, so it cannot compete.

2 Broke Girls has laugh-out-loud comedy and wit that can put it up there with shows like "Hot in Cleveland".  The premises, however, is flipped from "Hot" as these girls are young achievers who do not have the money to see their dreams get off the ground.

Max Black (Kat Dennings) has no internal edit button in her head cutting off the things she says.  Note to creators Michael Patrick King and Whitney Cummings: do you have a spy camera watching my every move? I also lack the edit button which, unlike your character Max, has put me into deep water many times.  Max is sassy and brassy and does not let anyone push her around or take advantage as she will put people in their place.  She leaves little room for anyone to respond and if they try she will knock them down several pegs for every comeback.  Her boyfriend is the one who she lets get away with way too much, but his friends are so scared of Max that when she walks in a room and tells them to go there is only dust left in their path.

Caroline Channing (Beth Behrs) is an heiress from Manhattan's Upper East Side with a privileged background whose father is now in prison for financial wrongdoing.  She explains to Max that she has nothing left and what she was able to take were all the wrong things for life on the street.  Her trust fund has been taken away by law enforcement and she took a job waitressing in Brooklyn so none of her uptown friends would see her working.  The one ability Caroline has is seeing a way to make money.  When the girls put their tips together to divide them in half, Max has made handfuls of $$$ but Caroline has only made $2, the girls separate the money into two piles.  Yet when Caroline shows her how much more money she made selling the cupcakes at a higher price they know the pair can make more money if they can start their own company.  When Caroline explains that the startup cost would be approximately $250,000, they begin to tally up their tips in order to raise the money.  The tally rings up at the end of each episode so the audience knows where the girls’ savings are at.

Earl (Garrett Morris) is the equivalent to Elka (Betty White) on "Hot in Cleveland" and his part should be expanded because he is the glue that allows the characters to bounce off him.  He is charming with knowledge that puts him in a position of respect, and he is the one character who can push Max back on her heels.  Earl is the cashier who lets no one out the door without having paid the bill and his kool cat swagger is the epitome of New York City style.

Oleg (Jonathan Kite) believes himself to be a woman charmer but his approach is more construction worker pick-up lines.  His attraction to Max is unswayed as she levels him with her quick wit and sarcastic delivery.  Still, Oleg continues his pursuit as if Max's responses were appealing and encouraging.

Peach Landis (Brooke Lyons) is a character that has yet to come into play enough to talk about her role among the other characters within the show.

Han "Bryce" Lee (Matthew Moy) gives the employees free rein to do what they want, but when it come to the hiring and firing he puts his foot down.  His role in the diner should soon be expanded, opening the door for even more humor.

This show will be a great part of the Monday night line-up for CBS.  This will be one of the break-out hits of the fall season
