SUPERNATURAL
SEPTEMBER 13, 2005

Eric Kripke has created a groundbreaking, terror laden, dry humored, otherworldly concept television show that has great characters with limited depth on the outside.  "Supernatural" has the lighting, music and car that distinguish it from all the rest that will soon follow in their footsteps.  The brothers Winchester will let no one come between the bond that will keep them fighting the demons, vamps and creatures of the night.

Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) is the eldest brother who has been watching over younger brother Sam since he was 4 years old and dad, John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) pulled them out of their burning home.  John put Dean in charge of making sure Sam stayed safe while he went back in to the house to save their mother, Mary Campbell Winchester (Samantha Smith).  What John saw changed the direction of the three remaining Winchester's lives forever.  John and Dean became avid demon hunters and quickly established a reputation all over the world.  The father and son team never let a demon escape, making them all pay for the trail of death and destruction wreaked on the earth.  They had to endure massive brutality in order to save mankind while following clues leading to the capture and death of the yellow-eyed demon who killed Mary.  John's back story is revealed in small amounts spread out in Season 1 which shapes the commitment to keeping Sam at an arms length distance from the dangers of demon hunting.  Dean is already dedicated to Sam's safety and the brothers have followed different paths since high school graduation.  The oldest brother thrives on the danger and pursuit of hunting while filling in his down time with cheeseburgers, one-night stands with local bar flies, and purging his soul with a stiff drink.  His mentality is to brainstorm a plan once a supernatural is detected, bringing about the quick demise and disposal of the evil entity.

Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) does everything in his power to separate himself from the dark world of hunting.  A normal life with his girlfriend Jessica is all he looks forward to. Suddenly one night, a repeat performance of what happened to his mother when Sam was a baby occurred.  Dean arrived at Stanford University in desperate need of Sam's assistance in locating their missing father.  Whisked back into the world of demons, the brothers discover a Woman in White and find themselves back in their natural element.  Unable to locate their father, Dean puts pressure on Sam to continue following clues left in a journal.  The journal was given to Dean, who would call his dad's cell phone in hopes that John would answer.  This was all the evidence Dean needed to prove that his father was still alive and has a strong sense of hunter's blood.  Sam has all the talent to be a successful student who could go on to lead a normal life away from the Creatures of the Night.  The family loyalty is the stronghold Dean needs to pull him back into a life on the road as a hunter.  After the death of Jessica, there is no longer anything keeping Sam from following in the path of John Winchester.

It has been 3 years since Buffy the Vampire Slayer took its final curtain call and the loyal followers were waiting for something new and fresh in the science fiction world to emerge.  This show has all the elements of years of success from writing, directing, lighting, and special effects along with the added bonus of a great soundtrack.
