SON OF THE SUN

BEFORE THE AFTER

JANUARY 8, 2008

This 4 track EP is somewhat heavy on the emotion end, with sounds that impede the listener.  Not powerfully rock based in nature, the tracks are a fit for the theatrical with lyrics that are not embracing.  The band beckons for a future with great potential, but lacks a jolt out of the gate.

The production was well executed, giving credence to what the band has written.  There are breaks of light that glimmer in the distance, but it will take the band some time to mesh.  Back in 1976, Rod Stewart (yeah I know, old but...) Released the album A Night On The Town, which did not have a side one or two, but instead were called "slow side" and "fast side".  This EP could be the "slow side" and that gives us something to look forward to: another EP that will be the "fast side".

There is a spark of optimism on "Listen Darkly" where the guitars have an opportunity to glide smoothly over a good drum beat.  The vocals are melodic in texture and package it up nicely for marvelous listening pleasure. All art is a work in progress, no matter how big or small.  Every band has to start somewhere, and the beginning is always the hardest place.  Finding a niche in a place in this vastly over-populated genre we call music is difficult.  The more time this group spends honing their skills and putting live sets together will push them through the fundamental stages of upgrade.
