NICKELBACK is a Canadian band classified as alternative metal/hard rock. They were formed in 1995 by current members Chad Kroeger (lead vocals/guitar), Mike Kroeger(bass), and Ryan Peake (guitar/backing vocals), as well as past member Brandon Kroeger(drums). The band’s name came from the “nickel back” that Mike Kroeger gave as change to customers when he worked at Starbucks. Brandon Kroeger left the band in 1997 to be replaced by drummer Mitch Guindon, who was subsequently replaced in 1998 by Ryan Vikedal. The band’s current drummer, Daniel Adair, has been with the band since 2005.

Nickelback’s first release was an EP called Hersher in 1996. It was recorded in Vancouver and was self-released. The band halted production of the album after selling over 10,000 copies. Four of the songs on Hersher were re-released on their next album, Curb, released in the same year. Curb was initially self-released but was later reissued by Roadrunner with an alternate album cover in 2002. It was their first studio album, producing the band’s first music video, and was the last album on which Brandon Kroeger played the drums. In 2000, Nickelback released their second studio album, The State. This album was also originally a self-release and later re-released by Roadrunner in 1999. In 2001 they released Silver Side Up with Roadrunner, which included a renamed and re-recorded track from Curb. The Long Road (2003) was the last album released with Ryan Vikedal on drums. Drummer Daniel Adair, formerly of 3 Doors Down, joined the band for their next album, All The Right Reasons, which was released in 2005. Nickelback’s sixth studio album, Dark Horse, was their fourth straight Multi-Platinum selling album in the U.S. Their latest album, Here and Now, was released on November 21, 2011.
