BREAKERBOX

THESE ARE STRANGE DAYS

JUNE 21, 2011

The moment the first track on Breakerbox’s new release fills the air with “Lose your Mind”, you know that this band thinks big.  When I close my eyes for the opening to “Nobody Gets Me”, a clear picture begins to emerge.  The setting is those moments at a concert, when the venue goes dark; the music that is in total connection to the band sets the mood.  For instance, when “Also Sprach Zarathustra” is played at a concert, everyone knows that Elvis is in the building.

The brain child of Denee (singer/songwriter) and Calandra (drummer/producer) have left little to the imagination while incorporating different genres throughout the complete release.  The pair seems to have a distinct direction while their pulse is on great songwriting.  “Melody” has lyrics that every musical artist can use to reflect back to the days when a groove would allow your imagination to open any doors, to let you believe you had the ability to do and go anywhere or be anything you wanted.  Music needs to have positive lyrics that may ask questions but finds the answers through growth.  Negative, feel bad for me, my life sucks and the needle and the damage done is so over done.

“Nobody Gets Me” cries from within a release that says, 'I have waited so long for someone to see me.  I am a force to be reckoned with and no longer will i wait for your recognition.  Outside people can not complete what breathes and flows internally.  I am my own power, the engineer of who i am.'

In conjunction with such commanding lyrics is a pizzazz punch of sound that displays a groove of musical stature.  Visually, the listener can skate from a new york theatre stage to rocking their head to the beat to becoming lost in thoughts of a place buried in the memories of a day gone by.  This is not fit for a single spin, as each time the words and music grow to be a part of you.  Christina has a voice that is contagious so whether she is singing you a story or slamming you with her far-reaching range you will still want more.  Seven tracks are just not enough.

Congratulations to Scott Calandra for having a vision and knowing where he wanted to take his musical career and never being swayed to conform.  Scott has the ability to take any song, and without deviating from the original feel and sound, make it his own.  Their site's touring page is under construction so it is clear that the road will be the next step in the grand scheme for Breakerbox.
