KINGSLEY FLOOD
BATTLES
FEBRUARY 5 2013

After the band released their 2010 "Dust Windows" which was an astonishingly refreshing piece of art that consumed the canvas from every corner of the frame.  "Kingsley Flood" had crafted a grey foundation with lavish colorings that jostled their work to the extreme.

Honestly there were feelings of such high accomplishment that nothing they would do as a band in the future would hold a candle to "Dust Windows."  In 2012 "Colder Still" a 6 track EP that seemed meant to hold the fans over until a full length studio album (cd) could be completed.  It didn't work as the anticipation was like waiting for the Heinz ketchup bottle to release the ingredients within.  It only made the fans even more antsy for more more more.

Now the time has come and "Battles" sees the light of day after been in the dark sound room waiting for the sun to emerge and prove there is life after "Dust Windows."  This 12 track studio album (cd) "Battles" pulls you in while occasionally letting you ride the musical freeway as there are many old sounds delivered with increased growth.  There is never a moment during any of the tracks that you forget who you are listening to but as a whole the band is adding a slight heterogeneous healthy extension to what they are building.  These are moments of artistic brilliance allowing each member to breath life into their instrument including Naseem Khuri's (Lead singer/guitarist) vocals.  Jenée Morgan's (violin/saxophone) backing melody contrast perfecting with Khuri embarking on the balance between rough grinding vocals and a smooth cross of R&B sprinkled with Jazz.

"King's Men" has been a staple in their live shows for quite a while still when the listener gets to track 9 it will be quickly realized "Kingsley Flood" has potential that needs to reach farther than the long arm of Boston, Massachusetts.  The only downfall to the album (cd) as a whole is the bands ability to leap into the fear of the unknown and aggrandize beyond what they have now established as the custom sound of "Kingsley Flood."

If anyone has not seen their live performance you are missing out on the radically emotional stage show that can easily bury any of the highest ticketed bands of 2013.  They will leave you breathless as they give you every ounce of their soul and in return "Kingsley Flood" only asks for you presence.
