MICHAEL NORTHROP was born in Salisbury, Connecticut. He is now living in New York City, where he’s been since moving there to go to NYU. After graduating, he worked at The World Almanac and Sports Illustrated Kids. His short stories have appeared in many publications, including Sports Illustrated, Sports Illustrated Kids, Weird Tales, McSweeney’s, Notre Dame Review, People Online, and The Morning News.


He is currently working on middle-grade sports novels for Scholastic. His next release, Plunked, is due to come out in spring 2012, and is about a Little Leaguer who loses his nerve after getting hit in the head with a pitch at the plate.


Northrop has written two Young Adult novels so far. The first of these was Gentlemen in 2009, which earned him a Publishers Weekly Flying Start citation for a notable debut as well as being named an ALA Best Book for Young Adults in 2010. It was also recognized by TAYSHAS High School Reading List, NYPL Stuff for the Teen Age, and the Junior Library Guild.


His other novel, Trapped (2011) is a Spring 2011 Indie Next List Selection and a Barnes & Noble “Must-Read for Teens”.
