JOSHUA FOER was born in Washington, D.C. He graduated from Yale University, where he met his current wife. Foer is a freelance journalist whose work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, slate, and The Nation. He also has a column in the journal, Cabinet. He has organized a number of organizations and websites, including the Athanasius Kircher Society, Sukkah City, and is the co-founder of the Atlas Obscura.

He currently lives in New Haven, and his writings are primarily focused on science. He was the 2006 U.S.A. Memory Champion, where he set a new record in the “speed cards” event by memorizine a deck of cards in 1 minute and 40 seconds. His first book, Moonwalking With Einstein, is an account of his journey of training and participating in the Memory Championship.
