Upon starting this book, the reader finds themselves joining Marty outside a window waiting for his weekly striptease from the married woman he is in love with (Or is he a voyeur?). The scene on the other side of the room suddenly turns violent when the husband walks in, striking the woman in the face and knocking her down. An intruder breaks through the window and shoots the husband, carrying the body back through the broken entrance and burying it.
Marty is arrested for the murder of Dr. Reinardt, Rachel’s husband. The story continues through the trial and is interspersed with flashbacks to Marty’s affair with Rachel. This reader began to question whether the affair described was real or a figment of fantasy in Marty’s mind.
David Ellis has managed again to connect the dots and end with several surprises. He keeps the reader on the edge and craving to read just one more page. Strong characters with cunning minds added to the twists of the plot make a compelling story.
I recommend this book to all adult readers. I am eager to begin David Ellis’s next book, Life Sentence.
